The No. 1 South Carolina Gamecocks stomped on No. 12 Tennessee on Sunday, 67-53, in yet another double-digit victory as the far-and-away best team in the country. In the process, the favorite to win National Player of the Year, 6’5 center Aliyah Boston, did what only one SEC player (WNBA MVP Sylvia Fowles) has done before, tallying her 19th consecutive double-double.
That is, to put it frankly, an absurd number of times to dominate the box score in boards and points. You have to go back to a 31-point win on Nov. 26 to find the last time she fell short.
The junior (yes, she has an entire other season to wreck the nation before presumably being selected in the WNBA draft’s lottery) hasn’t had the benefit of playing against a weak schedule, either. Seven of those games have come against ranked opponents including No. 2 Stanford and No. 8 Maryland. (Prior to the streak she also double-doubled against No. 2 UConn.)
Let’s marvel in the absurdity of her last 19 statlines:
Nov. 29 vs. NC A&T: 29 points on 13-of-13 shooting, 14 rebounds
Dec. 3 vs. Kansas State: 21 points, 17 rebounds
Dec. 12 vs. No. 8 Maryland: 16 points, 16 rebounds
Dec. 15 at No. 15 Duke: 19 points, 14 rebounds
Dec. 21 vs. No. 2 Stanford: 18 points, 11 rebounds
Dec. 30 at Missouri: 17 points, 12 rebounds
Jan. 2 vs. Mississippi State: 16 points, 11 rebounds
Jan. 6 at No. 13 LSU: 19 points, 18 rebounds
Jan. 9 vs. No. 21 Kentucky: 18 points, 15 rebounds
Jan. 13 vs. Texas A&M: 19 points, 15 rebounds
Jan. 16 at Arkansas: 19 points, 13 rebounds
Jan. 24 vs. Vanderbilt: 11 points, 12 rebounds
Jan. 27 vs. No. 24 Ole Miss: 19 points, 15 rebounds
Jan. 30 at Florida: 13 points, 19 rebounds
Feb. 3 vs. Alabama: 20 points, 10 rebounds
Feb. 10 at Kentucky: 14 points, 15 rebounds
Feb. 13 at No. 17 Georgia: 18 points, 12 rebounds
Feb. 17 vs. Auburn: 10 points, 12 rebounds
Feb. 20 vs. No. 22 Tennessee: 16 points, 12 rebounds
South Carolina’s gone 18-1 during this stretch and 25-1 on the season (lol). Boston’s chance to break Fowles’ record will come on Thursday against Texas A&M at 8:30 ET on SEC Network. Watch it to see greatness to make history.
