We’re three days away from the opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics set to begin on Friday, Feb. 4. Gear up. Fifteen sports and 109 medal events are coming. And already a few events are underway.

What sports are featured this year?

The 15 sports are: Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Bobsled, Cross-country skiing, Curling, Figure skating, Freestyle Skiing, Ice hockey, Luge, Nordic combined, Skeleton, Ski jumping, Snowboarding, Short Track Speedskating, and Speedskating.

Who will be competing?

Ninety-one countries will compete in Beijing, with approximately 3,000 athletes. The U.S. sent 222 athletes to the Games.

Who are the athletes to watch?

You’re in luck! Gaming Society will be spotlighting 12 of the biggest names across 10 events including snowboarder Chloe Kim, skier Mikaela Shiffrin and speed skater Erin Jackson. The Gaming Society’s Twitter account will be your one-stop shop to support the Athlete of the Day, and your place to hang out and talk sports with friends and fans during the events!

Who’s expected to lead the medal count?

Norway owns the best odds at -470 (bet $470 → $100) with Russia OC fairly far behind at +850 (bet $100 → $850) followed by Germany at +1000 (bet $100 → $1000). Next up’s Canada at +1200 (bet $100 → $1200), and finally the U.S. in fourth at +1400 (bet $100 → $1400).  The U.S.’s total gold medal over/under is set at 8.5.

What bet are we eyeing?

We loooooove Team USA women’s hockey odds at -105 to win gold, just behind Canada at -125. The squad is looking to run it back with forward Hilary Knight leading the way. All but one gold medal has been awarded to the United States or Canada since women’s hockey debuted on the Olympic program in 1998. And while Canada won the World title, we love USA’s mix of youth and experience, including Knight and Abby Roque, to top the podium.
