There is no bigger night for the people who fall in the middle of the sports fan/fashion lover venn diagram than the Met Gala. This year, the athletes at fashion’s biggest night (mostly) did not disappoint.

Let’s take a quick run (sports joke) through some of their looks!

Brittney Griner and her wife Cherelle in custom Calvin Klein.

As soon as it was announced that the Griners would be attending the Met Gala, Brittney became the athlete I was most excited to see, and she did not disappoint! The sheer top was a delightful detail, the coat and pants fit perfectly, and I am a sucker for the white/off white that the pair rocked. Both BG and Cherelle were utterly glowing.

Note: Brittney Griner was the first WNBA player to ever attend the Met Gala, hopefully she sets the stage for more invites in the future!

Grade: A

Russell Westbrook in Bode

Simply, yes. Westbrook absolutely never disappoints, and this year was no exception. I can’t tell what I like best: the clasp joined coat, pearl bolo tie that was VERY on theme, the beautiful pants, or the ballet flats (which to me, got too much hate, it’s a good look).

Really, Katie Heindl said it best:

Grade: A

Roger Federer in Dior

Unforch, it’s giving “go girl, give us nothing,” especially for a theme honoring a truly eclectic designer! He looks nice, the suit fits well, but I have nothing else to say.

Grade: C

Patrick Mahomes in HUGO BOSS

I like his shoes! And that is where I will end this section <3.

Grade: D

Stefon Diggs in Tommy Hilfiger

A well executed tweed moment! Stefon really saved the NFL for the night. He looks good, the suit fits well, I love it! I am always rooting for Met Gala attendees, but particularly athletes, to push themselves outside of the typical black suit, and Diggs delivered!

Grade: B+

Serena Williams in Gucci

Show me a bigger power move than announcing your pregnancy at the Met Gala! Williams looked beautiful dripping in pearls, and I know I *just* said I don’t want to see a plain black tux, but I love that Alexis Ohanian let Serena shine front and center in her gown. She looks like the (tennis) royalty that she is!

Grade: A-

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union in Prada

I knew there was no way these two WOULDN’T look good, and I was right. They look like fashionable superheroes, and I love it.

Grade: B+

Eileen Gu in Robert Wun

I love the concept of the wine stain gown, I love the pocket watch she carried like a handbag, I love the gloves, and I love the matching pink eyeshadow. The train on this dress was also gorgeous. Stunnin’!

Grade: B

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in Thom Browne

Yes x100000. Shai, thank you from the bottom of my heart for this outfit. IMO, Thom Browne stole the night, and one of his shining stars was Gilgeous-Alexander. He makes me proud to be a fan of the NBA. We should have seen this coming– SGA is a regular on the League Fits end of year awards list, but even with that knowledge, I was still in awe.

Grade: A+++++++++
