The NBA has free agency, the NFL has the draft, and MLB has its chaotic, masterful trade deadline that didn’t disappoint. This week saw the Yankees, Padres, Dodgers, Astros, and many more teams in contention take massive swings.Let’s review the biggest moves and how they affected their teams’ World Series odds.
Padres (60-46) land Juan Soto, Josh Bell
This was the big one, and after Soto turned down a $440 million extension with the Nationals, a possible traDe became inevitable. Though the Cardinals and Dodgers were in the mix, San Diego’s fleet of prospects including MacKenzie Gore, Robert Hassell III, C.J. Abrams, James Wood, and Jarlin Susana helped land the 23-year-old phenom and first baseman Josh Bell. With a lineup that includes Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, and newly-acquired pitcher Josh Hader, the Padres are to be feared.

Yankees (70-35) trade for Andrew Benintendi
Baseball’s second-best team also addressed its needs at the deadline, shipping away a struggling Joey Gallo and replacing him with the 27-year-old Benintendi, who was batting .320 in Kansas City. They also added pitcher Frankie Montas, defensive center fielder Harrison Bader, and reliever Scott Effross.

Astros (67-38) snag Christian Vázquez, Trey Mancini
Most expected Houston, first in its division, to stay fairly quiet around the deadline, but they too were able to add a new first baseman/DH in Mancini and catcher in Vázquez without giving up much.
