The 2023 NWSL season kicks off March 25 and the 2023 WNBA season tips off May 19. Since there are five months of overlap between schedules and five cities from D.C. to L.A. with teams in both leagues, it’s the duty of the Hashtag Go To Games Campaign to let you know the dates when you can support both teams.

Editor's note: Yes, this is an NWSL x WNBA crossover event post. I, Matt Ellentuck, am thankful for André Carlisle always, but especially for letting me come through in this little blog.

Weekend 1: Chicago (May 27 & 28)

Chicago Red Stars vs. Orlando Pride, Sat. May 27, 8pm ET

Chicago and Orlando are two talented teams undergoing lots of changes and may need a month or so to find their grooves. This match in late May will be an intriguing test of the progress they’ve made. Also, I’m introducing legislation to make it illegal to miss a chance to watch Mallory Swanson live. Avoid the bookings beloved.

Chicago Sky vs. Dallas Wings, Sun. May 28, 6pm ET

The Sky won’t have the trio of superstars who helped hoist the franchise’s first-ever trophy in 2021, but they still have THEE Finals MVP Kahleah Copper alongside another big free agency signing in Marina Mabrey. Mabrey taking on her former college teammate and scoring extraordinaire Arike Ogunbowale will be a must-watch.

Weekend 2: Los Angeles (June 3 & 4)

Los Angeles Sparks vs. Seattle Storm, Sat. June 3, 10pm ET

No Breanna Stewart or Sue Bird means we’re getting absolute BUCKETS from Jewell Loyd all season long for the Storm. And on the other end, Nneka Ogwumike remains the only active All-Star starter not playing for the Aces or Liberty lol. Go see a game between playoff hopefuls!

Angel City FC vs. Chicago Red Stars, Sun. June 4, 8pm ET

Angel City were frustrated by a plethora of injuries in their inaugural season. While stars Christen Press and Sydney Leroux’s injuries are progressing, neither are fully back just yet. But by early June both should be fit enough for substantive minutes, if not their regular spots in the starting lineup. If Angel City are to right the wrongs of last season and get into the playoffs, they’ll need to pick up maximum points against Chicago – who beat them 2-0 on the final day of the 2022 season to claim the final playoff spot. Whomst doesn’t love a revenge game?

Expert Level opportunity incoming:

We understand New York is a large city and getting from the Barclays Center to Red Bull Arena in an hour isn’t feasible for most people. But if you’re an advanced city traveler, technically, this is possible. And if you choose to do it, please chronicle your journey so we can all deliver sincere head nods of appreciation and respect.

Weekend 3: New York/New Jersey (June 4)

New York Liberty vs. Chicago Sky, Sun. June 4, 2pm ET

No, really. Like André said. I want to hear about this. Climbing Mount Everest is sick but this is next-level travel. Also if the Liberty start Libertying in the way we think they’ll Liberty you could skate out before the game ends to make it to the pitch.

Gotham FC vs. San Diego Wave, Sun. June 4, 5:30pm ET

East vs West. New York vs Cali. Concrete Jungle vs Beach. Lynn Williams vs Alex Morgan. Midge Purce vs Naomi Girma. This will be a perfect test for the new-look Gotham, and beating San Diego would reveal just how much distance there is between this year and last year’s teams.

Weekend 4: Seattle (June 9, 10 & 11)

Seattle Storm vs. Washington Mystics, Fri. June 9, 10pm & Sun. June 11, 6pm ET

TRIPLEHEADER. A footie match in a basketball sandwich sounds ideal! And you get the chance to watch Elena Delle Donne, Ariel Atkins and Natasha Cloud TWICE in the process. What are you waiting for?

OL Reign vs. Kansas City Current, Sat. June 10, 10pm ET

Midseason matchups don’t get much bigger! This will be a rematch of a 2022 semifinal and could legitimately be a 2023 NWSL Championship preview. In the semifinal, Kansas City shellshocked OL Reign 2-0 to place themselves in the championship game. Since, KC have been the most aggressive team in the offseason as they look to establish themselves as an NWSL superpower. As one already, OL must make sure it’s not their spot that Kansas City takes – again.

Weekend 5: New York/New Jersey (July 8 & 9)

New York Liberty vs. Seattle Storm, Sat. July 8, 7pm ET

Goodness, the potential for women’s sports fun in Seattle is outrageous. There’s nothing I even have to sell here lol. Just open up the Liberty’s roster to see Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones, Courtney Vandersloot, Sabrina Ionescu and Betnijah Laney to know you want to go to this. I live in D.C. and I’m considering starting to walk now to get there in time.

Gotham FC vs. Portland Thorns, Sun. July 9, 5:30pm ET

This ain’t your 1-year-old nephew’s Gotham FC! Unfortunately for yung Kadyn, he only knew a bottom of the table Gotham FC, but the vibes are much improved in 2023. They’ve added stars like Lynn Williams and Yazmeen Ryan, and drafted intriguing talent like former Florida State standout Jenna Nighswonger. But even as bad as Gotham’s 2022 was, they ended that season with a surprise 3-3 draw against Portland, which cost the Thorns an NWSL Shield.

Weekend 6: Washington (August 26 & 27)

Washington Mystics vs. Las Vegas Aces, Sat. Aug 26, 7pm ET

Ok I just want you to know first that these teams have terrible luck. Like in a span of two years, the Aces got majorly delayed in traveling to D.C. and FORFEITED a game, then at a different game the SHOT CLOCK at the arena in D.C. broke (an air horn was used in its place), and in a third instance an EARTHQUAKE interrupted the game in Vegas at halftime. You have been warned. (Also the Aces have every good player including Candace Parker, A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young so uh it’s worth the risk.)

Washington Spirit vs. Portland Thorns, Sun. Aug 27, 5pm ET

Apart from it being the Mark Parsons Derby (coached Portland 2016-2021, now Spirit coach), this match is just seven days after the 2023 World Cup final, and there’s a good chance the USWNT won’t be in it. If they aren’t, Sophia Smith, Crystal Dunn, Trinity Rodman, Ashley Sanchez, Andi Sullivan and Ashley Hatch have decent chances of playing in this game. These two teams going at it with fully loaded rosters is something you need in your face. Go to this game!!
