Gaming Society’s Bet of the Day is on Christyn Williams 🏀

Sorry to the haters, but the UConn Huskies are back in the Elite Eight, and finally, they’re at full strength 💪 

Despite missing No. 1 recruit Azzi Fudd for 11 games this season to a foot injury, and last year’s No. 1 recruit Paige Bueckers for 19 games to a knee injury, the No. 2 seed is in familiar territory against No. 1 NC State. 

Wanna know how? Well, I’ll tell ya. It’s because of senior guard Christyn Williams.

The 2018 No. 1 recruit (sensing a trend here, right?) has been SOLID in the absence of Bueckers and Fudd, scoring 14.5 points per game with 3.5 rebounds. The projected first-round WNBA Draft pick has been a stable source of offense throughout the tournament, too, scoring 40 points across three games including three 3-pointers.

She may only stand 5-foot-11, but Williams is tough, snatching six steals (!!) so far. Her best all-around performance came in a 17-point Sweet 16 blowout of No. 3 Indiana when she dropped 15 with six boards, three assists, a steal and a block.

Geno Auriemma’s group hasn’t won a championship since Breanna Stewart’s departure in 2016. If they’re able to get another shot, Williams, a veteran who’s started since her freshman season, will be a BIG reason why.
