Another Huskies baby girl is on the way!

Lynx star Napheesa Collier is expecting first child in May

Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier announced on Sunday that she’s pregnant — and she’s having a girl! No pressure on the kid, but if she wants to play basketball, she won’t have to look too far for help. Her mom is a WNBA All-Star, and her dad, Alex Bazzell, is an NBA and WNBA skills coach.

“I am super excited,” Collier told People. “The athletes that Alex trains, to have the kid be around them, to have them be around my teammates and have 11 other aunts. I’m really excited to see them around that environment, bring them into the world that we already live in.”

Collier says she’s drawn inspiration from Candace Parker, whose daughter Lailaa is now 12 years old. “The way she’s been able to be such an elite athlete, the love that she has for her daughter is so admirable and the way that she juggles it.”

The 25-year-old has had a helluva year, winning an Olympic gold medal in Tokyo with Team USA, competing in the WNBA All-Star Game and leading the Lynx to the playoffs. What a stretch!

Family comes before basketball, but with the baby due in May, returning to play before the end of the 2022 season isn’t out of the question if that’s what Collier wishes to do. No statement from the team or Collier commented on her 2022 playing status.

In the meantime, the UConn women’s basketball program should start putting together its 2040 recruiting plan — a Diana Taurasi baby, Breanna Stewart baby and soon-to-be Collier baby in one year! The Huskies are truly inevitable, huh.
