Betting 101: Player Prop
Progress 0%
A player prop is a bet on a player’s stats in a single game or collection of games. You can choose whether a player will record over or under a certain amount for each stat.
Ex: Jayson Tatum will record over 24.5 points
A player prop is typically displayed at a sportsbook like this:
Over: Betting the over means you expect the player to get more than the player prop stat listed.
Under: Betting the under means you expect the player to get less than the player prop stat listed.
Push: When the player’s final amount in a stat is equal to the prop total listed then the bet is a push. Sportsbooks return all wagers to bettors and the bet is neither won nor lost. No one wins here.
Hook: The sportsbook often adds a half-point (.5) to the end of the point spread or total. This is the hook. The hook eliminates the possibility of a push since there is no way to score half a point, yet.
Future: A player or team prop that takes place over a number of games or even an entire season.
Ex: Josh Allen to win NFL MVP +600
