Women’s basketball fans knew this day was coming four years ago. Now it's here. The top selection in the 2023 WNBA Draft is 6-foot-5 center Aliyah Boston, the 2022 NCAA champion and Most Outstanding Player, two-time Naismith Defensive Player of the Year, and four-time Lisa Leslie award winner. She will now look to rebuild the Indiana Fever.
Boston’s spent the last four years dominating at the highest level of collegiate sports, carrying South Carolina’s prestige from one of the best programs in the country to, undoubtedly, the one to beat. That’s what happens when a program goes 129-9 with their superstar under center.

Aliyah Boston’s ceiling: The league’s best low-post center
Aliyah Boston’s final season by the numbers: 13 points per game, 55.9% FG, 9.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, .5 steals, 2.0 blocks, 1.2 turnovers, 10.5% 3-point (2-of-12), 73.8 FT%
The whole point of basketball is winning and, well, Boston is really good at that, mainly because of her efforts on both sides of the court.
On offense, her low-post mechanics were sound enough to outsmart any and all who tried to contest her shots in college. Her motor is high, her knack for positioning herself for offensive rebounds is unparalleled, and her ability to out-muscle contact can’t be taught.
On defense, her instincts are game-changing, with the size and length to alter shots and protect the rim. In sport, you need constant, and that’s what Boston provides: consistently excellent basketball.
