The WNBA’s second annual Commissioner’s Cup will be played on Tuesday night at 8:30 ET and it features the Chicago Sky, Las Vegas Aces, a $500,000 prize pool on Amazon Prime and maybe, just maaaybe, a preview of the 2022 Finals.

The game won’t serve any purpose in the standings (where the Sky lead the Aces by just one game) but it will give a playoff-like atmosphere, with money as the reward instead of a trophy.

New fans will want to see eight of this year’s All-Stars compete including Candace Parker, A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young, Dearica Hamby, Kahleah Copper, Courtney Vandersloot and Emma Meesseman and the loyal fans … well yeah, they’ll want to see them play, too.In two matchups this season, the teams have split with each winning on the road. Tuesday night’s game in Chicago will serve as a temporary tie-breaker before the teams meet one final time on August 11.

If this game is anything like their June matchup, which saw the Aces blow a 41-18 first quarter lead, we could be in for something special between these two sides as the Sky pursue a second consecutive title and Vegas, powered by 2020 MVP and current MVP favorite Wilson, pursue their first.

With as much as $30,000 per player on the line for the winning team, and $10,000 for each loser, the stakes are high.
