Juan Soto is an icon

I’m not going to pretend that I spend much time watching baseball, but I am absolutely captivated by the spectacle that is Juan Soto, one of MLB’s brightest stars who knows his worth.

Last week, the 23-year-old turned down an offer from the Nationals worth $440 million over 15 years, which would have made him the highest-paid MLB player of all-time. The offer was nearly double the franchise’s most lucrative one ever signed, a $245 millIon deal for Max Scherzer.

Why’d Soto reject the deal? Well, he and his agent Scott Boras seem to think he can earn $500 million or more when he becomes a free agent in 2025. Locking into a 15-year deal, in his eyes, is underselling his worth. That is an admirable level of self-confidence. I want to be this man.

And you know what’s even better? He just won the Home Run Derby (the second-youngest to do it) and earned another $1 million for it. For fun!

With all attention on possible trades and his status with D.C., he cranked out 53 home runs, holding off the 21-year-old phenom Julio Rodríguez in the final round. Not a care in the world.

Just dingers, a chain from Bad Bunny, vibes, and a half a billion dollar deal incoming. Soon.
