Three weeks ago, coming off their second double-digit loss in a row — this one an embarrassing 44-23 throttling at the hands of the Chiefs — the 49ers, sitting at 3-4, looked down for the count.

Upon further review, this would not be the case.

On a three-game winning streak, the 49ers appear to have figured things out pretty quickly and once again find themselves in the driver’s seat of the NFC West. There are a few reasons for the turnaround, not the least of which is Christian McCaffrey becoming more and more involved in the offense. The defense has also found its legs led by Nick Bosa’s 10.5 sacks, which is the second most in the NFL.

Following last Monday’s thorough dismantling of the Cardinals in Mexico City, this weekend the 49ers are favored by 9.5 against the Saints — and for good reason. New Orleans' biggest offensive strength is its running game, which should be neutralized by San Fran’s rush defense, which is the best in the NFL. In addition, the Saints are just 1-3 on the road.

This sure looks like a matchup between two teams going in opposite directions, and we’re inclined to side with the one that’s on the upswing.
