See what I did there with the title?
If you can resist turning Brock Purdy’s name into a pun you are a stronger human than me and I admire you.
Also worthy of admiration? That's right, Brock Purdy—great guess.
Outside of college football obsessives and some rural Iowans, Brock Purdy is a relatively unknown rookie quarterback (a literal Mr. Irrelevant picked last in the 2022 draft) who has been thrust into the starting role of the San Francisco 49ers, who, according to FanDuel, are currently listed as one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl at +1000 (bet $10 to win $100).
Given his new standing at a high-profile position for one of the NFL’s most historic franchises, there’s a very good chance that Brock Purdy is about to become much more of a household name. That’s not a bad thing because his extensive college experience and limited NFL snaps have revealed he’s a very exciting player—for better or worse.
Last weekend, Brock helped lead the 49ers to a victory over the red-hot Dolphins and also became the first Mr. Irrelevant to throw a touchdown pass. San Fran will need much more of the same this weekend facing a Tampa Bay team with a stout defense fighting for their playoff lives. The good news for Brock is the pieces are all around him in SF to succeed right away. The 49ers are stacked at the skill positions and also boast arguably the best defensive line in football led by Joey Bosa.
So will Brock be successful despite being a relative unknown?
We think the chances are Purdy good (I'm sorry).
