I have a lot of friends who are fans of the Detroit Lions. Unsure how this came to be as I met them all in Los Angeles but those Michiganders wear their football emotions on their sleeves. I've seen them all live and die, mostly die, due to the Honolulu Blue.
Thanksgiving usually marks a time of woe for this naturally depressed fanbase. The past few years (decades) it has been the premier showcase of ineptitude. They've been the laughingstock of families nationwide as they munch on their charcuterie board.
Since the dawn of the new millennia, Detroit is 6-16 on turkey day. They haven't won a drumstick since 2016.
Don't look now but the woebegone Lions have the longest winning streak in the NFC. Beating the Packers, Bears and Giants in as many weeks. With many bright spots littering Dan Campbell's squad.
First-round pick Aidan Hutchinson is turning into a game-changing force, accounting for three turnovers during the streak. Running back Jamaal Williams somehow LEADS THE LEAGUE in rushing touchdowns (D'Andre Swift fantasy managers just threw their laptops out the window). Lastly, Amon-Ra St. Brown has been dominating the middle of the field since returning from injury, averaging 7 catches for 80 yards over the past four games.
The preseason MVP leads a Bills team that, oddly enough, just dominated on this very field. Now Joshy has made some errant decisions this season but does Detroit have enough firepower to take advantage of his mistakes?
Will this be the week Detroit fans have dreamed of?
Can the Lions pull off a miracle?
Or will we all laugh and laugh at another year of the Westminster Dog Show being more competitive than the first game on the Thanksgiving slate?
