The NFC South is hot garbage this season. This point is indisputable.
But I urge you to not let this distract you from the fact that the AFC South is also, in fact, trash.
With the Texans wandering in the depths of the wilderness and the Colts figuring out how clocks work, the Titans will have a chance to all but sew up the pathetic division when they face the Jaguars at home. Just three weeks ago, things were looking pretty good in Tennessee who had won seven of eight. But after back-to-back losses—including last week when they were absolutely crushed by the Eagles—it’s looking more likely the Titans could finish with a losing record, especially if they drop this weekend's contest.
While the Jags flashed some early season promise, the team is just 2-7 since Week 4. They’ve also mostly been awful away from the friendly (and largely empty) confines Everbank Field, posting a 1-5 record on the road. Fortunately, Trevor Lawrence’s apparent injury last week was less severe than it appeared and he will be available to play. The offense should be ready to play, but that side of the ball hasn’t been the issue for the Jags.
The Jags' pass defense has been exposed, especially of late. They rank 29th in the league allowing 255 passing yards per game and gave up 340 yards through the air to the Lions in a 40-14 blowout loss last weekend. The rushing defense has been much more respectable, however, ranking near the top of the league, which should come in hang against the Titans’ scheme.
Both teams would probably be very happy to grind this one out... so we wouldn’t be surprised to see this game go under the projected total of 41.5.
