Jeff Saturday has tasted NFL futility—and he’s ready for more!
The former Colts-center-turned-hall-of-famer-turned-high-school-coach-turned-interim NFL-coach started off his career hot with an unlikely victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Since then the Colts have lost three straight games, including 54-19 defeat in Dallas last weekend that wasn’t even as close as the score suggests. After the embarrassing loss, Saturday responded the same way any person would to the biggest setback in a very new career: He asked for a promotion.
Hey man, it’s a sweet gig. Shoot your shot!
Colts Owners Jim Irsay, a human who most wouldn’t describe as shy, responded pretty directly when asked by reporters about removing Saturday’s interim tag:
“I think Jeff’s a candidate but there’s a lot of great candidates out there. I think there’s a lot of great candidates in college. I think the pool needs to be broadened somewhat more. There’s some great college coaches that may be capable. There’s some unknown coaches that may be capable.”
To translate for Irsay more clearly: No.
Buuuut, if the Colts can somehow upset the Vikings this weekend, his case might get a little better.
But still... probably a no.
