It hasn’t been a year (or three…or 20?) to remember for the Texans.

But things are looking up: For the first time in two weeks, the Houston Texans aren't double-digit underdogs. When they play the Titans in Week 16 they'll only be 7-point underdogs.

Hooray!

Unfortunately, not being double-digit underdogs is much more of a commentary on how bad things have been in Houston in recent weeks rather than a genuine sign of tangible hope. The team is dead last in the league with a 1-12-1 record on the season. As a team, they rank last in the league in total offense and third to last in the league in total defense. Nobody is really shivering in their boots when the vaunted Texans come to town.

But let’s try to be somewhat optimistic.

The past two weeks they took both the Cowboys and the Chiefs to the limit, nearly pulling off huge upsets in both games. In addition, the first time in a long time, the team will head into the offseason with (likely) a first-overall pick, plenty of cap space, and no Jack Easterby in sight (who if you haven’t heard of, you should definitely read about). Beyond that Dameon Pierce and Laremy Tunsil for the base of what could turn into one of the best running attacks in the NFL.

The only thing separating the Texans from competing is simply better players and probably coaches too. But the good news is it looks like the franchise has hit the bottom of the barrel and is rebounding.

I mean, where else is there to go but up at this point?
