Coming into the season, Buffalo was just about everyone’s trendy pick to at least make—if not win—the Super Bowl.
But that goal just became much more difficult thanks to a Von Miller-sized hole that has emerged in the Bills' pass rush. Von was Buffalo’s biggest free agent signing, and largely has lived up to the hype, providing timely plays and pressure on opposing quarterbacks—he led the team with 8 sacks and 38 pressures on the season
With Miller now out for the year with a torn ACL, the Bills' path to the Super Bowl just became much more difficult — and it wasn’t going to be easy as is.
Miller helped the Bills jump out to the best record in the AFC East at 9-3. But his true value was going to reveal itself come playoff time, where Buffalo’s chances of playing for their first Super Bowl in nearly two decades likely come down to stopping quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Tua Tagovailoa.
In Miller’s absence, the Bills will need much more from talented young pass rushers Greg Rousseau and AJ Epenesa. But in absence of that, the Bills might just have to rely on their explosive offense outscoring the opposition every week.
I’m guessing that strategy sounds just fine to Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs.
