In 1971 the Boston Patriots selected quarterback Jim Plunkett with the first overall pick in the NFL draft. Quarterback Archie Manning followed, taken second overall by the New Orleans Saints. This marked the first time in modern NFL history that quarterbacks were selected with the top two overall picks.

Plunkett and Manning were forever linked by this draft, their careers constantly being compared to one another. Endlessly examining who was the better quarterback.

This became a running theme whenever two QBs topped the draft board.

There was the Drew Bledsoe vs Rick Mirer debate in 1993, a Jameis Winston vs. Marcus Mariota mania in 2015, and who could forget the Tim Couch vs. Donovan McNabb fracas of 1999!

Opinions and statistics may tell you some version of who came out the better player, but never, in the history of football, have the two quarterbacks faced off in a meaningful December matchup on Jeff Bezos' streaming service.

The golden-haired Trevor Lawrence takes on the golden boy Zach Wilson.

While you're not going to find many pundits choosing Wilson over TLaw at the moment (or over any QB taken in the 2021 draft for that matter) it's important to note that Wilson is just two years removed from the social media throw of the century.

If a throw happens against no defense whilst wearing gym shorts, does it ever really happen?

Wilson most certainly has the arm talent to take this ferocious Jets team to the playoffs, but the arm talent has never been the question. This Thursday it's going to take a lot more than arm talent to outscore a quarterback that is FIGURING IT OUT.

The Jets have a fantastic pass defense and will throw a few wrenches into Lawrence's golden locks. Both teams need a win as they are loosely hanging on to playoff hopes. Make sure grandma knows how to work her smart TV because this one is gonna be a doozy.
