TLDR; This is a weird time to evaluate the running back position, honestly.
Teams are devaluing the running back position in general because:
a) The career of an RB doesn't last quite as long, thanks to the physical nature of what they're asked to do and the big hits they often take while doing it
b) The difference in production between elite and good-to-average prospects often isn't as significant as it is for other skill position players (like quarterbacks or tight ends)
c) NFL teams are gravitating away from the "workhorse" running back and toward a "committee" approach. Rather than elect to give one player 300+ touches in a season, you'll have multiple RBs with 150+ touches, limiting wear and tear on one player. Though limiting touches for a single player can be helpful for the player in question in terms of improved career longevity and limiting injury risk, it does give teams a reason to push these players — even the most potentially impactful — down their draft boards.
The thing is, however — that rule feels like it shouldn't apply to a prospect like Bijan Robinson, who wins, in short, everywhere. In an era where the word "generational" is thrown around far too often, he truly is generational. He's a big running back with the ability to play through contact like big backs do... but he moves with the kind of finesse you often see in much smaller players. It's rare. Bijan is rare.
