Gronk announced his retirement on Tuesday, and literally nobody is buying it lol. That’s probably because we’ve been through this once before with the tight end calling it quits in 2019 only to return when Tom Brady asked him to 13 months later. Then the two won another Super Bowl in Tampa Bay.

In his second retirement post on social media, he described the NFL being his dream job and playing in Tampa Bay being his dream location, with the typical, cheeky Gronk “Cheers to what’s next, maybe sailing the seas [pirate flag emoji] Arghhhhhh!!” sign off.

Only for his agent Drew Rosenhaus to all but call the second retirement merely a hiatus. “It would not surprise me if Tom Brady calls him during the season to come back and Rob answers the call,” he told Adam Schefter. “This is just my opinion but I wouldn’t be surprised if Rob comes back during the season or next season.”

Then Brady joined in on the jokes:

Gronk is only 33 years old (11 years younger than Brady), and is coming off a season in which he played 12 games and caught 55 passes for 802 yards and a touchdown. If healthy, he’s certainly got more to give to the game if he wishes.

In the interim, our beloved 69-joke having, cruise-hosting, football partybro is sure to have his fun off the field.

We’re just saying, it’s going to be hard to pretend we didn’t see his second return coming. And like, Gronk, if you wanted to skip training camp just could’ve just said that.
